It all began with an idea.
In 2006, Mrs. Doris Ann Smith suggested to her Pastor, Rev. Robert F. Kemp, that a special scholarship fund be established to honor the legacy of the former First Lady of the church, Mrs. Jennie T. Kemp. Sis. Jennie, as she was fondly called, had an abiding interest in encouraging youth and adults to pursue education and training beyond the high school level.
In response to this suggestion, the Pastor created the Jennie T. Kemp Memorial Scholarship Coordinating Committee. Mrs. Doris Ann served as Chairperson of the Committee and shepherded the planning and implementation of the First Annual Jennie T. Kemp Memorial Scholarship Awards Program on Sunday, April 29, 2007. Mrs. Smith served as Committee Chairperson for ten years. She was succeeded by our current Chairperson, Ms. Gail Thomas in 2017.
The Jennie T. Kemp Memorial Scholarship Fund is incorporated as a non-profit charitable corporation under the laws and regulations of the state of Washington. The Fund is also exempt from federal income tax under the Internal Revenue Code, Section 501(c)(3).
